The doctor who posted about the incident was then visited by the elderly man. Before his death, the doctor uploaded a recording online. Driven by curiosity, Yang Jian clicks play, and suddenly hears knocking on the door… Initially dismissing it as a prank, he soon realizes that a ghost is indeed knocking.

Yang Jian, a high school senior, attends an evening study session where the school hosts a promotional lecture about ghosts, claiming that all ghosts originate from a well. Halfway through the lecture, the knocking old man appears at the classroom door. The entire classroom begins to rot, the knocking resumes, and students start dying one by one.

The lecturer, a Ghost Handler and the city’s representative, desperately tries to stop the Knocking Ghost, allowing others to escape. Due to a classmate’s betrayal, Yang Jian is locked in a bathroom. By chance, due to a connection with the ghost, he finds himself in another dimension. There, he obtains the Ghost Eye, becoming a Ghost Handler with the ability to lead seven classmates to safety.

However, Ghost Handlers typically have short lifespans, as the ghosts within them constantly erode them, eventually breaking free and causing new disasters – this is known as Ghost Revival, or Terror Revival. These ghosts are not the souls of the dead, nor are they part of the cycle of reincarnation; they are a form of energy that science cannot explain. Ghosts cannot be killed; the only thing that can fight a ghost is another ghost.

Therefore, only Ghost Handlers can potentially combat ghosts, but using the ghosts’ power accelerates their own Ghost Revival, creating a vicious cycle. Ghost Handlers typically have only six months to live, and to survive, they must find shortcuts, the most direct being to control another ghost to achieve balance.

The protagonist, Yang Jian, obtains another ghost in a store and attracts the attention of a girl. However, Yang Jian’s precarious life leaves him little time for anything else. The influence of the ghosts slowly turns him cold and inhuman, seemingly devoid of emotion, as he gradually transforms into a ghost himself. In reality, Yang Jian simply wants to protect “the human world” and prevent it from becoming the underworld.

Characters

Yang Jian: The male protagonist, a high school student who becomes a Ghost Handler after being haunted by a powerful ghost. He embarks on a path of confronting countless supernatural events to ensure his own survival. Yang Jian never relies on his existing power or achievements; he constantly seeks to become stronger to protect himself and his loved ones.

Wang Shanshan: Yang Jian’s high school classmate and his Ghost Slave. Before becoming a Ghost Slave, Wang Shanshan was a ballerina. Since being rescued by Yang Jian, Wang Shanshan trusts her master implicitly. As a Ghost Slave, she has become even more dependent on Yang Jian, and their relationship can be described as “living and dying together.”

Jiang Yan: An accountant saved by the male protagonist, who constantly tries to get into Yang Jian’s bed. She has a childish personality but a very attractive figure. Although she continuously tries to seduce Yang Jian, he never agrees.

Zhang Liqin: A married woman and Yang Jian’s first lover. Zhang Liqin gives Yang Jian what he needs, helping him relieve stress. In return, Yang Jian protects Zhang Liqin’s life.
