Zhuge Yuan, courtesy name Shenmo, is a character in the Chinese novel Daoist Priest of the Unusual. He serves as a valuable assistant to the protagonist during the middle stages of the story, a storyteller for the Great Qi dynasty, a source of annoyance for the Three Purities, and a sworn brother to Li Huowang.

He meets Li Huowang at the Buddha Bone Temple, and the two become friends. During the “Cleansing the Emperor’s Entourage” incident, he dies trying to save Li Huowang, becoming one of Li Huowang’s Heart-Prime hallucinations.

After the Great Qi dynasty is saved, his obsession vanishes, and he dissipates completely, leaving only his spinal sword behind.

After Li Huowang achieves great accomplishments in cultivation, he cultivates multiple times, causing Zhuge Yuan to appear, but each time Zhuge Yuan disappears after it ends.

Character Introduction

He is an important supporting character in the novel, a source of annoyance for the Three Purities (Sanqing), whose home is in a village in Great Qi. He is upright, hates evil, and wholeheartedly wants to save Great Qi. His friends include Xu Nian and Li Huowang.

Later, during the Doumu incident when they fought over the Divine Mountain Ghost Eye, he sacrifices himself and becomes Li Huowang’s hallucination. His body is also refined into a spinal sword by the Surveillance Bureau. Finally, after Li Huowang cultivates Guihai and saves Great Qi, the hallucination completely disappears.

During the final battle with Fusheng Tian, he appeared as a hallucination to help Li Huowang in his most desperate moment.

Although Zhuge Yuan is upright, he sometimes uses any means necessary to save Great Qi.

Life Experiences

Initially, he lived in a village in Great Qi, where people lived with evil spirits. Later, he left his hometown to study.

Afterwards, he went to Minglun Hall to find Wang Changsi, but without success. He then left because he was dissatisfied with the rules of Minglun Hall.

During this period, Zhuge Yuan became an annoyance to the Three Purities and became a storyteller.

He meets Li Huowang and becomes friends with him, changing Li Huowang’s name to “Guihai” during that time.

During the “Cleansing the Emperor’s Entourage” incident, the Dice Sitting-Forget-Self Sect used Wang Tianbao Hao to guide Doumu’s incarnation to descend. Zhuge Yuan sacrificed himself to save Li Huowang, and Li Huowang obtained Zhuge Yuan’s “hallucination” as a result.

In fact, Zhuge Yuan’s ten emotions and eight sufferings returned and became the Three Purities (modern Qing Wanglai), while the hallucination Zhuge Yuan still helped Li Huowang a lot.

During the Dice “Seizing the Dragon Vein” incident, Li Huowang successfully cultivated Guihai, thereby saving Great Qi, and Zhuge Yuan’s hallucination completely disappeared. The Three Purities continued to operate in reality as Qing Wanglai.

Because the Three Purities seized the Pure Heavenly Dao, Fusheng Tian intensified the pollution of the Three Purities. Driven by the ideal of saving the world, Qing Wanglai became increasingly crazy and cruel.

In the final battle, Guihai dispelled the fear in the Three Purities’ hearts, and the restored Zhuge Yuan appeared at Li Huowang’s most desperate moment, helping him.
