When Fan Xian came to the capital and wanted to meet his fiancée, Lin Wan’er, Fan Ruoruo did her best to help him. She witnessed Fan Xian and Lin Wan’er’s journey from acquaintance to love, which made her yearn for a free marriage and choose a suitable person, also laying the foundation for her later decision to elope.
When Fan Xian was about to get married, he went to visit the palace, memorized the palace map, and then told Fan Ruoruo to draw it. Fan Ruoruo helped him without hesitation. At the banquet to entertain the Northern Qi merchant Zhuang Mohan, Fan Xian recited poetry after getting drunk, embarrassing everyone. He took advantage of his drunkenness to sneak into the palace to investigate. Fan Ruoruo waited at home, ensuring that no one knew that Fan Xian had secretly entered the palace.
After Fan Xian returned from completing his mission in Northern Qi, the Qing Kingdom emperor decided on the marriage between Li Chengze (the Second Prince of Qing Kingdom) and Fan Ruoruo, but because he trusted Fan Xian, he promised to help Fan Ruoruo cancel the marriage.
Later, Fan Ruoruo decided to study medicine. Fan Xian was surprised to find that Fan Ruoruo’s hands were very steady. He began to let her practice dissection using fruits and animals such as ducks. When Fan Xian held his wedding, she received a letter from Grandmaster Ku He of Northern Qi, who wanted to take her as a disciple. After the wedding, Fan Xian and Fan Ruoruo moved to Cangshan to live.
