Huang Ting - The Body is Only as Thin as a Needle | Summary

Summary - Updated on February 23, 2025

For readers who love Xianxia, especially the classic style, the author “沉沦只是指尖” (Chen Lun Zhi Shi Zhi Jian) should be familiar. Among his many works, “黄庭” (Huang Ting) impressed me the most. Therefore, today I dare to review this “Huang Ting” by Chen Lun Zhi Shi Zhi Jian.

Introduction

– Audiobook Link: 《黄庭》 (Huang Ting)
– Author: 沉沦只是指尖 (Chen Lun Zhi Shi Zhi Jian)
– Genre: Classic Xianxia
– Status: Completed (388 Chapters)

The story is set a thousand years after the “Nan Le Sword Turns into Milky Way” event. Powerful individuals who surpass the Yuan Shen realm cannot exist, the Heavenly Court has disappeared, and the land is in chaos, with demons seizing divine positions and ghosts occupying temples.

The novel’s protagonist is Chen Jing (nicknamed “Bad Luck Jing”) – a young man who has always yearned for freedom. But against his will, Chen Jing, out of kindness, has to accept the position of River God, bringing with it the responsibility for the lives of thousands. This great responsibility changes him, and Chen Jing gradually becomes a true deity, a true guardian.

Review: My first impression of “Huang Ting” is that the author put a lot of effort into building an interesting and unfamiliar world of land gods, mountain gods, river gods, and city gods, as well as different cultivation methods: collecting faith, refining Qi into essence, and refining essence into spirit. Each cultivation method has different realms, so even within the same realm, supernatural powers can vary greatly. The author’s style and writing are fast, concise, and simple, without flowery language, yet full of mystery. The author’s descriptions of combat scenes are both hazy and realistic, lacking earth-shattering scenes, but able to make people feel the powerful supernatural powers of each character.

Chen Jing – walks on the path of immortality filled with sweat and tears, making mistakes and then awakening, turning pain into strength. Although talented, he is ordinary, carrying a mysterious aura, and seems to be the center of the world even when doing nothing. Like countless stars existing only for a cold moon, he tries his best to pursue longevity.

The author’s writing style is relatively steady, concise, and insightful (sometimes too concise). The story’s pace is fast, without many intensely exciting plots. One of my favorite aspects is the protagonist has less of a “protagonist halo”. Bad Luck Jing suffers from a young age to old age, and often the supporting characters are more outstanding than the protagonist.
