When the Spirit World Arc of A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality concluded, I received many questions from readers asking when I would start writing the Immortal World Arc. Everyone’s anticipation made me both happy and apprehensive. The Mortal World Arc alone had almost exhausted all my energy, and I was really hesitant to continue writing. In the following years, although I wrote two works, Magic Domain and Xuanjie Zhi Men, A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality was always on my mind. Giving Han Li an ending has always been my dream. I would think about some plots in my free time, but overall, I wasn’t satisfied.

What would Han Li’s ending be? This was a question I kept pondering. As a middle-aged person, I often have wild thoughts: What is the meaning of existence? If you were given a chance to choose again, would you still be who you are now? Would your life be smooth sailing or full of ups and downs? Can a person decide their own destiny? Can destiny be changed?

I asked myself, and I am also asking Han Li. Every time I see my naive photos from my youth, I suddenly have inspiration. Even if I didn’t write A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality, I would still write another story, eventually embarking on the path of creation, to pursue my ideals. Perhaps the process would be different, perhaps the ending would be different, but my original intention would not change. Then I started conceiving the story of the Immortal World Arc.

In recent years, social activities have gradually increased. Sometimes, I am unable to refuse, and I am not very accustomed to socializing, feeling somewhat powerless. The Mortal World Arc had so many threads and foreshadowing, how to integrate everything, so that the Immortal World Arc could proceed on the trajectory I had in mind? After years of accumulation, things gradually became clearer. At the end of 2017, I finally decided to continue writing A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality.

In the blink of an eye, more than two years have passed, and the Immortal World Arc of A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality has finally come to an end. Han Li, from a mortal, went through countless hardships to become the Supreme Dao Ancestor, but in the end, he gave up his identity as a Dao Ancestor and chose his own path, to be free from constraints. He chose to have wine and tea, close friends, a loving partner, a son, and a daughter.

My writing skills are limited, and there are many regrets in Han Li’s story, and many ideas that I didn’t write out, but in any case, I have solved a major problem that was weighing on my mind. Afterwards, I will write some stories that were not mentioned in the main text, and publish them in the form of side stories, to make up for some of your regrets.

Han Li’s story has ended, but Wang Yu (忘语, the author’s pen name) will continue to move forward. In the future, I hope that all readers can continue to accompany me on this journey.

The conclusion of the Immortal World Arc is just a comma in the worldview of A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality. New legendary stories can still be born in the entire Mortal World. Wang Yu does not rule out the possibility of writing another “Han Li” in another Mortal World, a wonderful story of cultivation, when more inspiration accumulates in the future.
