Synopsis

The protagonist of the novel is Chen Ping An, born into a poor family. When he was five years old, his father was murdered, and his mother died from a serious illness. From then on, Ping An became an orphan struggling in the slums. He has a dark complexion, ordinary appearance, and nothing particularly special about him.

After working diligently for three years, he couldn’t compare to others who spent half a year studying. Although named Ping An (Peaceful), his life was never as stable as his name suggests. One day, the imperial court ordered the closure of all kilns in his area, which plunged him back into a precarious situation, barely surviving.

Despite fate not being kind to Chen Ping An, and despite his unremarkable appearance, he has a kind heart and is friendly to others. When Ning Yao was seriously injured and dying, a Taoist priest brought her to Chen Ping An’s doorstep, begging for help. He spent all his money to buy medicine to save Ning Yao.

Due to his poor family, Chen Ping An went to the stream to pick up stones to sell for money and catch fish. He encountered Ruan Xiu, who was secretly eating. Ruan Xiu wanted to ask for a few fish, and Ping An gladly agreed, giving them to her without hesitation.

Liao Qianyang is a clever and mischievous orphan, but he often teases the protagonist. However, Chen Ping An never envies or hates him. Later, Liao Qianyang was almost beaten to death for refusing to hand over a family heirloom. Chen Ping An and Ning Yao chased after them to seek revenge, knowing they would lose, but still caused their opponents to lose eighty years of life.

• Chen Ping An: The protagonist, born in Lizhu Grotto-heaven. Both his parents were named Chen. When he was 5 years old, someone let his father know the secret of the town and shattered Chen Ping An’s Natal Porcelain. His parents died from the backlash. After Chen Ping An’s Natal Porcelain was shattered, like a firefly in the dark, the adventures of the town rushed towards him, but could not be retained.
• Qi Jingchun: An important character, the personal disciple of the Confucian Sage, the Fourth Sage. Because his name offended Taoism, he was not tolerated by the three religions.
