Die (蝶) is the female protagonist in the side story of the novel “Dou Po Cang Qiong” (Battle Through the Heavens), titled “Sha Zhi Lan Ge” (Song of the Desert).
Die is a twin sister to Cai Lin (彩鳞). Gifted with extraordinary talent, she possesses the cultivation of a peak Dou Huang and is destined to become the Snake-People Queen.
Character Introduction
Die’s appearance is extremely similar to Cai Lin. However, unlike Cai Lin’s irresistible and alluring charm, Die’s appearance is simpler, more delicate, and slightly fragile, inspiring pity. Unlike her sister, who is decisive and ruthless, Die possesses a kind heart, despises war, cherishes life, and yearns for a free life. Unfortunately, born into royalty, her fate is sealed, and she cannot have freedom.
Life Experience
The Snake-People race strictly adheres to ancestral teachings. Each generation has only one Queen, who only gives birth to one descendant. Similar to how Snake-People hatch from snake eggs, the elders use secret methods to nurture the child within the mother’s womb before birth. As a result, they typically possess cultivation levels that ordinary people struggle to achieve in a lifetime. However, in Cai Lin and Die’s generation, the snake egg hatched into twins. When the two sisters reached adulthood, the elders forced them to kill each other. The victor would become the Medusa Queen (美杜莎女王). Cai Lin was unwilling to harm her sister and voluntarily gave up. During the blood ritual, Die was also unwilling to hurt her sister. She ceded the Queen position to Cai Lin and used space-bending techniques to escape, becoming a traitor to the Snake-People race.
Due to using space-bending techniques, Die suffered serious injuries, resulting in amnesia. She wandered in the desert and was captured by humans, becoming a slave. At this time, Hai Bo Dong (海波东) appeared and rescued her. In reality, Hai Bo Dong was secretly hired by Cai Lin to send her sister to the Garma Empire (加玛帝国) to evade the Snake-People’s pursuit, allowing Die to truly gain her freedom.
Hai Bo Dong and Die were subsequently pursued by the Snake-People, experiencing numerous dangers. When Hai Bo Dong was injured, Die took care of him and stayed by his side. With her kind personality, she awakened the humanity within Hai Bo Dong, and the two fell in love, experiencing the taste of love.
When surrounded by the Snake-People, Hai Bo Dong, in order to allow Die to escape, drew the Snake-People’s attention to himself. Hai Bo Dong and Cai Lin engaged in a fierce battle. As both were about to unleash their final moves, Die regained her memory. She immediately used her Dou Qi to form wings and flew into the air, trying to stop the two people she cherished most from killing each other. Seeing Die about to be injured, Hai Bo Dong rushed forward to block the attack for her, suffering Cai Lin’s sealing technique, which greatly diminished his strength and turned his hair gray. But fate was cruel, and an arrow shot from a Snake-People soldier pierced her heart.
Hai Bo Dong and Cai Lin were devastated by Die’s death. Before her death, she told Hai Bo Dong that her name was Die, and she was a free butterfly.
Cai Lin, because of Die’s words, let Hai Bo Dong go. From then on, she herself underwent a change. She no longer followed those rigid tribal rules. Instead, she used her own strength to suppress all the elders in the tribe, abolished all unreasonable tribal rules, and led the Snake-People towards true freedom in her own way.
Hai Bo Dong also did not return to the Garma Empire. For the next twenty years, he lived in a small wooden house in Shi Mo City (Stone Desert City), specializing in selling maps, until he later met Xiao Yan.
