Part 5
Qin general Meng Tian led the Qin’s elite Golden Flame Cavalry to attack the city, claiming to the Chanyu that he only needed ten men to break through Touman’s city walls within half an hour. If he failed, he would commit suicide under the city walls. If he succeeded, Touman would cut off one of his ears and lead the Xiongnu out of the Qin border.
In front of Touman’s city walls, Meng Tian sent men to pour oil onto Touman’s city walls with Dragon Water Carts and burn it with rockets. Touman didn’t care, thinking that fire couldn’t burn stone, and let the fire spread without paying attention. Subsequently, Meng Tian also had people sprinkle water on Touman’s city walls. Touman didn’t understand what Meng Tian was doing and thought he had already won. However, Meng Tian first used the Dragon Water Carts to sprinkle oil on the city walls, attacked with fire, and then sprinkled water, using the principle of thermal expansion and contraction to break through the city walls. Meng Tian shot an arrow at the city wall, causing the city wall to collapse. Touman fell from the city wall. Meng Tian led his men to rush towards the city wall, and Touman’s right ear was destroyed by Meng Tian. At this moment, a Xiongnu woman came to rescue Touman. The Xiongnu woman fought with Meng Tian for several rounds, snatched a horse, and took Touman away. Meng Tian ordered the pursuit to continue, but encountered a group of cavalry similar to those from Central Asia, and Touman successfully escaped.
In Beigu City, Touman talked with his beloved consort Huji, mentioning the matter of using deadly wolf poison on Fusu to force Meng Tian to send troops to find the wolf poison antidote.
Returning to Touman’s tent camp, Nuomin and Kliggen were reprimanded and ordered to capture Meng Tian again. Kliggen was rescued by Touman when he was almost dead in the desert. In order to repay Touman, he wanted to help him eliminate Meng Tian. Kliggen was originally ordered by the king to guard Tianzhu, but was driven out by the people of Tianzhu. Kliggen just wanted to return to his hometown, but the road home was cut off. Kliggen led his troops across the desert and climbed the snowy mountains, almost dying in the desert before being taken in by Touman. Touman wanted Kliggen to fight for him, but Kliggen promised his soldiers that he would take them home. Kliggen’s words angered Touman. When Touman drew his saber to slash at Kliggen, Nuomin stood in front of Kliggen, claiming that the failure was due to the wolf hunters. Huji mentioned Nuomin’s failed assassination of Fusu, and Touman ordered Nuomin to be arrested. Nuomin was imprisoned by Touman for resisting, and Kliggen wanted to guarantee Nuomin’s safety with Meng Tian’s head.
